Habitat

It is found in some parts of northeast France. The conventional biotopes of fallow deer are quite varied. They like mixed or open deciduous forests, bushy or flattened pastures, low and undulating mountains.
 

DIET

The spotted fallow deer is mostly herbivorous : it feeds on grass, shoots, leaves, acorns and chestnuts, as well as fruits, berries and buds.
In the winter it eats ivy, brambles, mistletoe, thorns, broom and dry grasses (hay).
 

Reproduction - LIFESPAN

Lifespan : 25 years in captivity and about 16 years in the wild.
 

LIFESTYLE

They live in herds of 6 to 50 individuals led by an elderly female.
Their sense of smell and hearing is combined with outstanding diurnal vision, nocturnal vision is significantly weaker.

They run 25 km/h at cruising speed, and up to an average of 48 km/h for a sprint, peaking at 70 km/h over very short distances. They can also jump up to 2 metres high and up to 7 metres long.
