DIET

The arctic fox feeds on rodents, birds, eggs, berries and rotting carcasses.
 

Reproduction - LIFESPAN

The period of reproduction spans from the start of September to the start of May.
The gestation period lasts about 52 days. The female gives birth to six to seven fox cubs.
Lifespan: 8 to 10 years.
 

distribution

The arctic fox is present throughout the Arctic region in Greenland, Canada, Alaska, islands in the Bering Strait, Russia, Iceland and Scandinavia, although the latter population is declining.
 

protection status

The arctic fox is classed a minor concern by the IUCN, it is in danger of extinction in Scandinavia where it was hunted for its fur. The current population is estimated at only 140 individuals.
