The bison belongs to the artiodactyla order.

DIET

This ruminant feeds on some 250 different plant varieties, predominantly grasses, with bark and leaves in addition.
 

Reproduction - LIFESPAN

The animal can live up to 15 to 20 years.
Mating takes place at the end of the summer and the beginning of the autumn. 
There is a 9-month gestation period.
 

Habitat

Large herds of American bison were mainly found in the American Great Plains, but they could be seen everywhere from Canada and on both sides of the Rocky Mountains to Mexico.


LIFESTYLE

Bison form maternal herds gathering females with calves and some older ones who watch over the group and serve as guides. The males gather together and the two sexes only meet in the reproductive season.
