NUMBERS - DISTRIBUTION

The geographical area traditionally occupied by the Bayeux pig is Normandy, but also the Pays de la Loire from where it takes its name Longué pig.
After the Second World War, the headcount waned and the breed almost disappeared. So when the ITP launched its conservation programme in 1984, there were only 5 boars and 15 sows in 4 farms.
The Bayeux pig was one of the first French pig breeds to be officially registered when its syndicate was created in 1928. In 1996, the breed was incorporated in the flock book of local breeds of pig (LIGERAL) that has since managed it.
