diet

Apart from the period of reproduction, this owl consumes small mammals and birds (the size of a duck) as well as rotting carcasses.
Prey is consumed on the ground. The smallest prey is swallowed whole, while larger ones are divided into pieces.
 

SEXUAL DIMORPHISM

The female is taller and heavier than the male.
 

reproduction - lifespan

Egg-laying takes place from the beginning of May until the beginning of June.
The female lays 3 to 11 white eggs directly on the ground.
The female incubates alone. Incubation lasts 32 to 33 days. The eggs hatch several days apart.
 

distribution

The snowy owl is found in all countries surrounding the Arctic Circle, from Kamtchatka to Norway and Alaska to Labrador including Baffin Island. It is also found in the far north of Greenland.
The global population is concentrated in Russia and Canada.
