Also called the Chiloé duck owing its name to Chiloé Island, situated off the coast of Chile. It is found around the Falkland Islands, South America and Argentina.
It is a gregarious and very sociable species but shy with humans.

It is herbivorous and feeds on the water’s surface and on land.
It is smaller than a mallard and its back has superb black feathers clearly outlined in white giving it a very graphic appearance. Its bill is sky blue with a black tip.
