Cereopsis novaehollandiae

This large, stocky species with grey plumage, originating from South Australia, has a black bill almost concealed by greenish yellow cere.
Its legs are flesh colour with dark red but the webbing is black.
These purely vegetarian geese feed by grazing.
In the period of reproduction the cereopsis nest in grasslands on small Australian islands and also feed along shorelines.
The males have strong and abrupt shrieks while the females grunt very deeply like pigs.
